Wedding season does not stop because you're pregnant. Unfortunately, neither does the invitation list. The good news: you do not need an entirely new wardrobe. Let me explain.
You need a few outfits that understand the assignment comfortable enough to sit, eat, walk and dance in, but good enough that you still feel like yourself.
Do:
1. Start with the silhouette, not the label. Look for dresses, sarees, anarkalis, co-ords and separates that give your body some room without swallowing it. A dress with an easy shape can take you from the ceremony to dinner without requiring constant adjustment.
2. Breathable fabrics matter. Natural fibres can make a noticeable difference when you're already warm. Especially when you're already itchy, sweaty and constantly feeling hot (we don't want any surprise sweat patches)
3. Let accessories do some of the work. If your outfit needs to evolve with your body, your jewellery doesn't. A great pair of earrings, a bag and shoes you can actually walk in can make a simple outfit feel occasion-ready.
4. And yes, you can wear colour. Pregnancy doesn't require a beige wardrobe. Wear the pink. Wear the green. Wear the red. Wear the thing you would have worn before you were pregnant.
Don't:
1. Don't automatically size up. This is one of the biggest maternity dressing myths.
Going two sizes bigger can leave you with excess fabric everywhere except where you actually need it. Look for cuts designed to accommodate your changing body instead. Choose fabrics that can survive a wedding. Indian weddings mean heat, standing, sitting, dancing and occasionally being trapped under approximately 57 people in a family photograph.
The best wedding outfit during pregnancy isn't the one that makes you look the most "maternity." It's the one that makes you forget you're wearing something specifically for pregnancy at all. That's the goal.
